Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a reporter for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began as a radio and TV reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She became a Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. She was appointed Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist as well as presenter of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of the panel at 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. The reporting she did included plenty of significant stories, including the Iran-contra affair, the tax reform and the budget, as well as the arms control. She traveled widely along with President Reagan to meet along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
